Every drug performs differently depending on the type of drug test used.  The two most common point of collection drug testing methods are saliva and urine.  The table above shows when a drug may first become detectable and when the detection period most likely ends for each drug on a saliva or urine drug test.

Drug detection periods are also influenced by other factors including a person's weight, tolerance for the drug, method of drug use, activity, diet, metabolic rate, age and urine PH.

Understanding detection times for different drugs along with the difference in testing methods is necessary to choose the type of test for your situation.  Generally, saliva testing is more recent indicator of drug use while urine testing can expand the detection window somewhat.

Most importantly, point of collection testing is a preliminary drug screening method and any preliminary positive result should be confirmed by a laboratory.
